Recently we have been learning about loving our neighbours practically in our day-to-day life. This can be showing love to others in our flat, on the Oval, in Harpenden and wherever we may go in the future.
Jesus said that to “love your neighbour as yourself” is the second-most important commandment (Mark 12:31). We must do this but what are some practical ways?
Philippians 2:3 says, “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” In our actions each day we can check ourselves to make sure that what we are doing lines up with those guidelines.
There is also a more challenging love to others, the active type, searching for an opportunity to show Jesus’ love instead of simply resisting selfish acts. The fourth verse in Philippians chapter two says, “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” This can mean sharing our possessions with others, taking time to ask how someone is or simply spending time with people.
At our DTS we will always be striving to be unified, showing love everyday with Jesus as our ultimate example of how we should live our lives both here at the Oval and all over the world. In this way we will have unity and be a light like Jesus said in John 13:35, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
