The Oval Cafe

The Oval Cafe

Central Perk in “Friends”. The kitchen tent in “MASH”. The Talon in “Smallville”. Cafe Nervosa in “Frasier” (yep, that’s what it’s called – search for it on Google!).

The coffee shop or cafe is portrayed in popular entertainment as a place to meet friends, engage in memorable conversation, have a laugh, even drink coffee. We would love to have one here at Highfield Oval!

For years, it has been ‘number one’ on our wish list to have a centralised place for hanging out with one another and the local community. Our bookshop attracts members of the public on a regular basis, and our staff have regular coffee breaks in their respective buildings. Imagine the possibilities if we could merge these opportunities for meeting and create a comfortable space where staff, students and other friends can relax, chat, refuel and buy coffee and cakes. We see there is income generation potential in such an idea, which is important; but also important is the idea of bringing people together. Our plans include enough space to hold small outreach events while also providing cosy corners for quiet conversations about faith, friends and the future. It would be a place for meeting and talking outside of an office environment or dormitory, providing a better atmosphere for connecting with one another.

Will you help us make our own sitcom central? We need to raise £4,500 to transform a designated part of the Clock Building , our most central building, into the kind of place where memorable moments can happen every day.

If you would like to help out with this then you can
