July 14-18 — Basic Writing Fundamentals
Taught by author and speaker JANICE ROGERS (sister of YWAM founder Loren Cunningham and the author of his books). This lively workshop teaches writers how to target your writing to the right audience; how to write a compelling story; identifying and addressing readers’ felt needs; tightening your focus; and how to build your stories with dramatic scenes. For additional information about the instructor click here.
July 21-25 — Magazine Article Writing
Taught by award-winning author-editor SANDI TOMPKINS. From print magazines to online publications, blogs, e-zines and more, you can reach thousands more by writing magazine articles instead of (or along with) a book. This workshop teaches you about various types of articles and how to “hook” your reader from the first sentence. You will learn to develop the best strategy for research, techniques for getting great interviews, how to use structure to write your rough draft, and keys to a smooth writing style. July 28-Aug. 1 – Creative Writing for Fiction
Taught by BODIE AND BROCK THOENE (pronounced Tay-nee), authors of over 45 works of historical fiction which have sold more than 10 million copies. The Thoenes are not only master stylists but experts at capturing readers’ minds and hearts and they will teach you how to do that. This workshop is devoted to teaching students how to think and write creatively, how to draw on the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in the creative process and how to use techniques of fiction to heighten the tension in your writing. You will learn to show, not tell; how to stay in the right POV (point of view); how to write effective, natural-sounding dialogue; how to “tag” your characters; and much more.
