School of Worship

School Of Worship (SOW)

To know God intimately in worship, and make Him known through worship and music

14 April - 30 August 2008

12 weeks of lectures and practical application, with a two-month outreach afterwards.

The School of Worship is happening because of the call God gave YWAM Harpenden to equip and release a new wave of young people to transform nations with God’s love and His ways.

We as a Worship Team feel guided by God to serve this YWAM location and the body of Christ by running the SOW and imparting what we have learned and experienced as a team, as well as calling on other experienced worship leaders from around the world to teach from their accumulated wisdom.

School Vision

To train the next wave of worshippers who will lead this hurting, needy and lost generation into the transforming presence of Jesus.

Key Verse

As we prayed for a Scripture that would “encapsulate” God’s heart for this school the verse below is what we had:

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners...” Isaiah 61:1

The School aims to:

- train passionate worship leaders who will serve the body of Christ and reach the lost through music;

- encourage students, regardless of their level of musicianship, in their worship-leading before the Lord and others;

- give you a rich understanding of worship and the worshipful heart that God is after;

- help you to grow in intimacy with God through worship;

- make you more aware of worship in different cultures, and better able to celebrate Jesus in different cultures;

- release you into a greater use of your spiritual and natural gifts;

- remind you of the need for an everyday life of dependence on God;

- bring more awareness of how worship interacts with intercession and spiritual warfare;

- give you a greater understanding of who you are created to be in Christ and to release you into greater freedom in your relationship with God and others;

- encourage you in your skills as musicians and songwriters;

- provide plenty of practical experience of worship-leading in both Christian (in the Church and in YWAM) and outreach situations.

Topics to be taught during the 12 weeks’ lecture phase include:

- The identity of the worshipper

- Character and lifestyle of the worshipper

- Biblical and historical basis of worship

- Prophetic worship

- Musicianship

- Songwriting

- Creativity in worship

- Worship-leading

- Worship and evangelism

What others say about SOW…

Becky (England), a graduate from the SOW 2007, comments:

“Throughout the school I grew closer to God, received revelation on my gifts, overcame a lot of my fears, and widened my view of what ‘worship’ was. I am now more aware of the spiritual realm and see the world and situations differently. The school has given me the confidence for the future to walk in my gifts and the calling God has for my life.”
